What is Rootstock Sydney?
Rootstock Sydney’s focus is to promote sustainable farming in food and wine production and no/little additions in winemaking. Rootstock Sydney is a Not For Profit organization and event.
Building upon the enormous success of the past three festivals, Rootstock Sydney 2016 promises to be the most anticipated food and wine festival in the country. This is the only event of its kind – fun, informative, a touch wild, with a focus on organic, biodynamic and natural growing and the beautiful produce that results.
Carriageworks Director Lisa Havilah said: “We’re excited to present the return of Rootstock Sydney at Carriageworks for its third year. This world-class event is an opportunity for visitors to engage first-hand with some of the best chefs and creative leaders in the food and wine industry, from around the country.”

26–27 November // Ticketed // BAY 25
Running over two days, Saturday and Sunday 26th and 27th November, there will be two sessions per day. These ticketed events are an opportunity to both meet the artisan winemakers and taste their natural wines. Unlike most other trade fares, the grower-producers are required to attend their stall, which we believe enables more dialogue and understanding of wine. There will be upwards of these 200 of these unique wines available to taste. This year sees an increased focus on natural farming, with wines shown only produced from naturally-farmed vineyards. This year sees an exciting series of talks by producers, chefs, educators, writers, sommeliers and more. As in previous years the talks will cover a diverse range of topics around food, wine and agriculture. Click HERE for more info.

Rootstock Sydney will have a food stall at the Carriageworks Saturday Farmers Market! David Moyle will be cooking some delicious seafood and Mecca Coffee serving great filter coffee. Come to have a snack, say hello and talk about our 2016 exciting program.

Even if you are not participating to the wine festival, come by, no ticket required, food stalls and bars open to play.
Feather & Bone + Slow Food Sydney. Grant Hilyard and Feather & Bone friends will be making the Slow Food Ark of Taste Bull Boar Sausage and cooking it over the coals. Slow Food Sydney will be serving some snacks and answer your questions about the other Slow Food Ark of Taste products.
Enrico Sgarbossa will be cooking for Rootstock Sydney Pizzeria. Incredible grains are selected by Kialla which then contribute to the long fermented sour dough of this special focaccia; toppings will include native ingredients.

Saturday 26 November - from 6 pm - GEORGIAN PARTY
Georgian food and wine in the company of seven Georgian wine producers; an event the like of which has never been seen in Australia before. Chef Renee Trudeau, just back from Georgia, will cook up a storm reflecting the deep culture of Georgia. Come and try traditional food from this country, including the cheese khachapuri (Imereti style), lobio, roasted potato with tkemali, carrot pkhali with pomegranate, grilled pork and onion with adjika, lamb chokhokhbili. Discover the oldest wine region in the world with its native varieties from white grapes like tsitska, tsolikauri, rkatsiteli, chinuri to red such as tavkveri, shavkapito, saperavi... A thrilling, original event.
Sunday 27 November - from 6 pm - ROOTSTOCK SYDNEY X ITALO DISCO
Talented chefs David Moyle, Analiese Gregory, Duncan Welgemoed, Monty Koludrovic, Pasi Petanen, with friends, will slowly roast Australian produce over / under coals such as kangaroo tails, stings rays, palm hearts.
The Sunday night is curated in collaboration with ‘Italo Disco’ founders Maurice Terzini (Icebergs/Dolphin Hotel) and Giovanni Paradiso (Fratelli Paradiso, 10 William St). This is a party for all to attend, even if not at Rootstock Sydney festival by day. All are welcome to join for great food, drinks and tunes.
