Domaine Mathieu Coste is located in a quiet corner of the Coteaux du Giennois appellation in the Loire River Valley, just south from Sancerre. During his time at the region’s co-op, Mathieu Coste recognised the high-quality, organic grapes of Domaine Alain Paulat. They sprung from earth similar to that of Sancerre, a mixture of clay, limestone and siliceaous soil. Purchasing the 5-hectare vineyard in 2008, Coste retained Paulat on staff, maintaining the former owner’s strict organic techniques in the process.
Coste strives to produce pure wines of the highest quality, including many great examples of the Gamay, Pinot Noir and Sauvignon varieties, using only natural, indigenous yeasts during a meticulous three-week whole cluster fermentation process.
