Importer: Living Wines

Tony Bornard is the youngest winemaker in a family of Jura winemakers which stretches back many generations. His father Philippe, who is also at Rootstock, started his own domaine in 2005 but has always grown grapes for a living, so Tony grew up, in the tiny wine village of Pupillin, surrounded by grape growing and winemaking. After completing school he studied winemaking in Burgundy and then spent time travelling and working in vineyards around the world, including, for a time, in Australia.

A few years ago he returned to Pupillin and began working with his father. But his plan was always to grown his own grapes and make his own wine. He eventually found a small parcel of vines to rent, right underneath the famous Pupillin sign (Pupillin’s answer to Hollywood), which dominates the surrounding vineyards as you drive towards Pupillin. The very first sale of his own wines, from the 2013 vintage, was an order for Australia. The wines he will show at Rootstock are from his second and third vintage.

He also still works for his father Philippe and makes his own wine in Philippe’s wonderful cellars underneath his imposing stone house at the top of Pupillin.
